EBTC 2024, Day 4: France confidently through to the final, opponent not confirmed until Saturday due to another rain delay

Another rain delay has thrown the schedule for the EBTC 2024 at Diamond Country Club into disarray: The match between England and Sweden, which is about the final, and Austria and Finland respectively Switzerland vs. Netherlands, a duel for 5th to 8th place, are affected.

France remains the number 1 favourite for the title on day 4 of the EBTC 2024 at the Diamond Country Club: Team Germany was clearly defeated 4 to 1, with none of the match play duels lasting longer than 16 holes. Only Nils-Levi Bock (GER) was able to wrest a point from the French.

Herbert Forster, Team Captain Germany: "It was difficult today. Our boys gave everything. But our opponents France put in an outstanding performance. France played in a different league today. They were wide awake, scored the important points and never let up. We were always chasing them. Now we have to lick our wounds and get our heads together for tomorrow. We want to bring home a medal."

Of course, French coach Pierre-Jean Cassagne's summary is positive: "We are proud that we won against Germany today. We've played against them for the last three years, and we lost to them two, respectively three years ago. There is no special recipe for the final, but we have a clear goal. We're confident in our strength as a team."

France's No. 1 Hugo LeGoff, who beat his opponent Nico Kregler 5&4, said: "The whole team played well. In the end, we made fewer mistakes than the German team."

The final opponent will not be determined until Saturday morning due to a rain delay and thunderstorms on Friday: In the duel for the final place, England has the better cards against defending champions Sweden. Two points are already in the bag, with England ahead in each of the remaining three matches.

Austria vs. Finland on a knife-edge

Austria was also not able to finish their match against Finland on Friday as planned and will have to put in an extra shift on Saturday morning: While the duo Thomas Austin/Max Puregger, already victorious against Sweden, make short work of their opponents and win 7&5, all four singles matches are completely open.

In the classic foursome, Thomas Austin hit the shot of the day from an Austrian perspective, which subsequently meant the end of the match against the Finns Rasmus Lindeberg/Veeti Puumaleinen: Austin circled his shot onto the green between the trees, just two metres from the flag, that led to the winning birdie.

The match for relegation

Spain and Iceland are both certain to be relegated from the first league, while the Czech Republic and Denmark are off the hook after their victories and will battle it out for 9th place on the final day of the EBTC 2024.
